Before our trip my Mom found out about the Spy Museum and bought tickets ahead of time so we didn't have to wait in line. Thank you Mommy.
When we entered the Spy Museum, a police officer told us which line to go into and then we got into an awesome elevator with lit up walls and a lit up ceiling. When we arrived at the next floor, everybody had to watch the nearest TV screen and a man said to complete this mission of fun, you had to find a character that you wanted to pretend to be. The characters were posted on the walls. Sal and I chose to both be Jane Meyer, age 13, female, born in Sweetwater, TN, USA, with a destination of Dublin, Ireland. The purpose of my trip was for a 7 day vacation. We went through lots of mechanically operated passages and doors. We learned A LOT about the early spies. Once crazy invention that someone had was to take a 3 inch metal tube that stored tools which were being smuggled inside the tube. The tube if you can believe this was stuffed in someone's tush! My Mom said that spies did this during war time. Ewwwww!!!!!!!
I promise I will draw a picture in class because we were not allowed to take pictures in the Spy Museum.
Another exhibit was of an umbrella that had secret compartments. There were tiny pockets that stored gun powder, little mini knives, and sometimes they would store other little tools.
After this we went for a late lunch and then to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum which was SOOOOO cool! We took a lot of pictures there which we will post tomorrow. There were hundreds of giant planes all around, hanging from the ceilings. I really wanted to be able to climb into one but it would have been too dangerous and it would break their rules.
We went to their gift store and bought my brother Henry some things so he wouldn't feel so left out. I got, space rocks and the lady was so nice to us and told me to go back and pick out some more for free.
Well I have to go to bed now and will post more tomorrow.
Good Night,
Sophie

Huge Chair Big President
We had a very long walk to go to see the Lincoln Memorial which was up from the Washington Monument.
It was a very tiring to get to the stairs of the Memorial. When we finally got there there was a huge mass of people trying to get pictures with Abraham Lincoln's statue. There were at least 30 stairs leading up to Lincoln. The statue is all white, and is Lincoln sitting in his chair.
To the right of the chair there was one of his speeches engraved in the wall and if you go further right is a very small and narrow book store. It was the size of a bathroom.
There were some great things in the book store like posters, books, Obama's post cards, pens, and other awesome items.
The view from the Memorial is amazing- you see the Reflecting Pool, The Washington Monument, US Capital. It was very pretty and a very nice view and I think I'll remember that view for a long time.

Great Job Obama
Back to the Inauguration:
I think that from his acceptance speech he will probably make some changes to the economy and try to get everybody back from the war. He didn't say Yes We Can that I noticed but everyone that watched it did!
The reason why it was such a great experience to be there was because Obama is the 44th President and the 1st African American President in America's history. Everybody looked very happy to be there even though they were cold and probably hungry, they were smiling with huge smiles. I cannot believe that over a million people came to join Obama on his special day.
I'm really happy that I can say that I was at Barack Obama's inauguration.
Today we did lots of things. We finally slept in after yesterday's big crazy loud day. Today we went to the Washington Monument but it was sold out, we're getting tickets to go to the top of it tomorrow at 830a so I have to go to bed now.
I'll write more tomorrow.
Love,
Sophie

train pain
We got on the BUSY train it was so busy that we almost couldn't breath we met 2 really nice woman who chatted with us until there stop then when it got even busier two men let us in there foot room and chatted and did magic tricks with us until our stop. Then there was an announcement that someone had been hit by a train and that train was our next train so we had to walk about 17 blocks back and forth because of security. We finally made it in because mom said we were press. (kind of true since she works for a magazine) She said that because even though we had tickets to watch the inauguration, the Federal Marshalls were not letting anyone in to the Mall because it was so packed.
We watched the swearing in and part of the parade. I was really happy to be there for the whole thing. We went to lots of exhibits at the Newseum and we interviewed lots of people who worked there and people who were at the inauguration themselves. It was really fun. Right next to us when we were watching the inauguration, there were lots of press people like ABC, BBC, and CNN. We even got on TV -- it was ABC and friends have said that saw my mom and Crista on the news.
It was a really long parade and it lasted until dark, with lots of bands and crazy dancers!
I'll write some more about the Capital and the speeches later.
